HC: Remove handcuffs of 3 Santals
DHAKA: The High Court has ordered concerned authorities to remove the handcuffs of three Gaibandha Santals undergoing treatment at different hospitals.
The bench of justices Obaidul Hassan and Krishna Debnath passed the order Monday afternoon after hearing a writ petition.
Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua filed the writ seeking court directives to remove handcuffs of Santals Choron Soren, Bimal Kisku and Dijen Tudu.
Police arrested them in a case for attacking the law enforcers with arrows during a clash on Nov 6.
During the clash – where police were backed by a group of goons allegedly loyal to the local MP – three Santals were killed and several more injured at Madarpur and Joypur villages in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj upazila.
